Alison Spear Director of Absolute BSLAbout

Alison is an experienced teacher, trainer, and assessor. She has also worked as a presenter, translator, mentor, and researcher – among other roles!

She is an active mother of two young deaf boys and wife to Simon.  She is a native BSL user from a four-generation Deaf family.  In her spare time, she likes to research her family tree and read British Deaf News.

One of Alison’s aspirations is to encourage hearing people to develop their BSL skills. This will benefit both communities, by bridging the communication gap and leading to career opportunities.

She established absolute to provide a high standard of teaching, encouraging good use of BSL and promoting the language as a whole.

Alison is passionate about teaching and people learning British Sign Language. She enjoys imparting her knowledge, but in particular, likes to see learners achieving, big and small.  The learners’ journey is also important to Alison; she aims to provide an environment that is as rewarding as it is educational.
